1989 to 1993
Partners vote to form Andersen Consulting as a separate business unit. Andersen Consulting’s image was launched with innovative, groundbreaking TV and print ads.
First Global Management Council was formed to ensure that Andersen Consulting leadership was focusing on global issues. Business Process Management was formed, laying the groundwork for what we know today as Business Process Outsourcing.
1994 to 1998
The company opened Centers for Strategic Technology in Palo Alto, California, and Sophia Antipolis, France. Today these are known as the Accenture Technology Labs. The new organization model focused on delivering quality client service globally. An internal “community of practice” structure was launched.
1999 to 2003
Joe Forehand succeeded George Shaheen as Managing Partner and CEO. Accenture and Microsoft create Avanade, a joint venture helping Global 2000 clients optimize Microsoft investments.
Accenture launched its new name on January 1, and strategic imperatives were announced – bold growth, a great place to work, and operational effectiveness.
2004 to 2008
Bill Green was named CEO, succeeding Joe Forehand, who retained the chairman role. Accenture and Microsoft offered technology solutions for the Smarter Retailing Initiative.
The company launched a diverse supplier development program. Accenture was included in the Ethisphere Institute’s “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list for the first time.
2009 to 2013
Accenture and the Accenture Foundations committed to contributing more than $100 million in cash and services over three years to support corporate citizenship. Pierre Nanterme becomes CEO, succeeding Bill Green, who remained chairman of the board. Ambition 2020, the long-term vision for market leadership of the company was launched.
2014 to 2018
Accenture Operations was formed, combining business process outsourcing with infrastructure and cloud services. Accenture surpassed 150,000 women employees globally, contributing to a stronger, smarter, and more innovative workplace.
Accenture set a new goal of achieving a gender-balanced workforce, with 50% women and 50% men, by 2025. Accenture reached a milestone market capitalization of $100 billion.
2019 to Present
Julie Sweet assumes CEO role, succeeding David Rowland, who becomes executive chairman. Accenture ranked No. 1 on Barron’s new list of the Most Sustainable International Companies.
Accenture Cloud First launched with a $3B investment over 3 years to accelerate clients’ cloud migrations and digital transformation.
