About Agoda History

2005 – Initially, the founders Robert Rosenstein and Michael Kenny started two online hotel booking sites called PrecisionReservations.com and PlanetHoliday.com in 2003 and later combined them with one company called Agoda in 2005.

2007 – Booking Holdings acquired Agoda.

2011 – Agoda launched an Android and iOS mobile application for booking hotels.

2014 – Booking Holdings acquired an Israel-based startup called Qlika, and the Qlika Team joined Agoda to automate and scale its marketing tools.

2016 – Booking Holdings took control over WooMoo, Taipei based startup, and relocated the team from Taipei to Agoda’s headquarters in Bangkok. Google Search results started showing reviews of Agoda.

2017 – Agoda explored non-hotel accommodations to try and appeal to millennials.

2018 – Co-founder and CEO Robert Rosenstein took the new position of Chairman of the company while the former COO, John Wroughton Brown, took the position of CEO.

2019 – Agoda announced its interest in pursuing business in Europe and Israel. Agoda started to work with Digitas for marketing content across various Asian markets. Agoda also added a new feature called Mix and Save, allowing customers to book different rooms for their stays.

2020 – Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the company laid off 1,500 employees in May. Agoda also introduced day-use hotel rooms in South Korea.
