About Hilton Hotel History

Let us take a look at the extraordinary history of Hotel Hilton:-

In the 1910s – In 1919, Conrad Hilton bought the hotel, The Mobley in Cisco, Texas, and over the next few years, he purchased other hotels in Texas. Conrad opened the high class called Dallas Hilton, which was the first hotel to carry the Hilton name. By 1927, Hilton expanded to Waco, Texas, and opened its first hotel with cold running water and air conditioning in public areas in the hotel.

In the 1940s – Hilton purchased Roosevelt and plaza hotels in New York City. The Hilton Hotel Corporation was formed and was also listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Roosevelt Hilton became the world’s first hotel to install televisions in their guest rooms. Conrad Hilton in Time magazine was the first Hotelier to achieve such recognition.

In the 1950s – Hilton launched a program to bring air conditioning to every hotel in the Hilton portfolio. Barron Hilton introduced the new Hilton Carte Blanche Credit card, the premier travel and entertainment card owned by Hilton hotels. Hilton bought a Statler Hotel for an amount of $111 million, which was the largest real estate deal of the era.

In the 1960s – Hilton International was born as a separate company, with Conrad Hilton as the president. Lady Hilton was launched, the first Hotel concept which was designed especially for women travelers. The first DoubleTree hotel was opened in Scottsdale, AZ.

In the 1970s – Hilton became the first NYSE-listed company to enter the domestic business by purchasing the Flamingo Hotel and the Las Vegas International. Conrad Hilton passed away at the age of 91.

In the 1980s – Hilton Hotels were founded to operate the luxury hotels and resorts in the world’s major business and tourism capitals. First Embassy Suites of Hilton was opened in Overland Park, MO. Hampton Inns and Homewood Hotel suites were opened. Hampton Hotels became the first Hotel company to provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

The 1990s – The official website of Hilton was launched. The Hilton Garden Inn made its debut with four locations. Later on, they were expanded to 500 properties. 

The 2000s – Hilton worldwide resorts were launched as a vacation ownership subsidiary. Christopher J Nassetta joins the Hilton hotels CEO and President. Hilton hotels are expanded to 76 countries. Hilton Hotel Corporation changed its name to Hilton Worldwide and changed its headquarters from Beverly Hills, California, to McLean, Virginia.

The 2010s – Home2 Suites, a new concept in the extended-stay market. Hampton Hotels is named as the #1 franchise opportunity in Entrepreneur’s magazine franchise 500 rankings.
