History of Zomato

Zomato was initially called Foodiebay.
It all started in 2008 when the founders saw people standing in a queue at lunchtime to order their food at the company they were working at. From there, they got the idea of this startup which was the stepping stone of Zomato. To execute their idea, they listed all the menus and restaurants on the website of Foodiebay and they got huge traffic on their website so they increased their operations in Mumbai, Kolkata, etc.

Soon, words spread around the company in which they were working and people started using the website. They expanded more and thousands of people started using their website to get food from the best restaurants. And in November 2010, they changed the name from Foodiebay to Zomato. To make it easier for people to order food, they built a mobile application which is also popular.

Several investors invested huge amounts in Zomato due to Zomato’s gaining popularity and by 2018, it is said that Zomato received funding of about 300 million dollars. With that amount, they expanded further in other cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and many more. In 2012, Zomato expanded its operations overseas to places like the United Kingdom, United States, South Africa, Dubai, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many more.
